Eshet HaMidbar

While the rest of the world marked International Women’s Day, a group of 300 women from all over Israel set out for the second annual “Women Moving Mountains” event (in Hebrew, “Eshet HaMidbar”), run by OTS’s Yad La’isha: The Monica Dennis Goldberg Legal Aid Center for agunot. The purpose of the challenging 24 km hike over 24 hours was to raise awareness of agunot, as well as funds for Yad Lai’sha’s ongoing activities: legal representation to set them free, and social services to empower and enable them to start new lives.

The result was an unforgettable experience, and incredible amount of fun, and an inspirational display of strength and camaraderie proving that women can, in fact, move mountains. “I went on the hike to challenge myself,” said R, who has been trapped in marriage by a runaway husband for 16 years. “But being surrounded by all these women and their power helped me find the strength within myself to succeed, to fight and to win.”
