This week, approximately 70 shlichim from OTS’s Straus-Amiel and Beren-Amiel Emissary Training Institute currently serving as rabbis and educators in communities across Europe came together in Lausanne, Switzerland for a three-day regional conference.
The conference kicked off with Straus-Amiel and Beren-Amiel director, Rabbi Eliahu Birnbaum, reciting the Shehechiyanu blessing, on the great joy shared by all present at seeing friends who they had not seen for a long time.
The shlichim participated in TED talks, classes, lectures and panel discussions on topics that are on the top of the agenda of European Jews, such as the future of their communities, sociological and demographic questions, the impact of the war in Ukraine, a snapshot of the world of conversion. The altruistic young men and women also took part in a session devoted to caring for their family relationships while on shlichut.
The conference ended with a special, festive event celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Institutes’ establishment.
All in all, it was a wonderful, special, and energetic few days marked by warmth, idealism and significance!
