OTS institutions marked Israel’s Memorial Day – Yom HaZikaron – with meaningful services embracing and honoring the families of students, alumni and faculty whose loved ones fell in the line of duty or in devastating terror attacks. In fact, Yom Hazikaron is a personal experience for almost every citizen in this tiny country, where everyone knows someone who was killed, and where the country continues to fight every day for its very existence.
The abrupt swing from somber national mourning to the unbridled celebration of Yom Haatzmaut the very next day creates an intense, draining and emotionally charged mood throughout the entire country. Our challenge and goal is to imbue our students with the important values for which each individual fought and died. We are gratified by the love and dedication that our students exhibit for the country, and enjoyed seeing them going out to the streets or – as in the case of Midreshet Lindenbaum‘s Amlat Program for young women from Central and South America – going out to the hills in order to celebrate every inch of our promised land.
