Once a week, students in the Elaine and Norm Brodsky Darkaynu Program perform chessed in a variety of frameworks within the community – volunteer work which is an important value to instill in all students, but especially empowering for these young adults with special needs who are used to so often being on the receiving end.
One of the locations in which some of the students spend their volunteering time is the Arnona community garden. This year is a shmitta (Sabbatical) year, so after a quick review of the relevant halakhot and guidelines, the young women rolled up their sleeves and got to work.
