Baruch Dayan HaEmet: Hillel Nehemia Ofen, z”l

We are shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Corporal Hillel Nehemia Ofen, 20, a student at OTS’s Metvita Hesder Yeshiva in Carmiel, who died this morning during an advanced training exercise as part of his IDF military service.

Hillel studied at Metivta until this past March, when he chose to volunteer for the elite IDF Yahalom combat engineering unit in order to best serve his people and his homeland.

His friends and rabbis in the Yeshiva relate that Hillel was a charming, refined young man, who brightened everyone’s day, was genuine and kind, played several instruments, and completed any task he undertook.

Hillel was a pillar of the yeshiva in general and of his class in particular. A unique, deep and inquisitive person as well as humble, hardworking and modest, with great ambition to contribute to Am Yisrael and Eretz Yisrael.
