Straus-Amiel emissary Rabbi Aharon Zerbib hosted the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Rosen Plevneliev, for the lighting of the first candle last night in the Sofia Synagogue.
Also among the distinguished guests were the mayor of Sofia, Yordanka Fandakova, MI Secretary Svetozar Lazarov, the ambassador of Russia Yuri Isakov, Ambassador of Israel Shaul Khamis Raz, Corporate Culture Minister Martin Ivanov, and President of OJB “Shalom” Maxim Benvenisti.
Dr. Sophie Danon, 93, lit the torch for the annual Hanukkah Macabia marathon of the Sofia Jewish community.
