Rivka and Nissim Yitzchak Zawady

Rabbi Nissim Yitzchak and Rivka (Friedman) Zawady are the Rabbi and Rabbanit of the “Chessed El” community in Singapore; Rivka also works as a teacher in the local Jewish day school. The couple has been in this position for about a year and a half, prior to which they were on shlichut in the Jewish community of Greece.

Tell us about the community you’re in:
There are two synagogues and one Jewish school in Singapore. The Jewish community is very warm and friendly.
What did you receive from the Straus-Amiel Educational Emissary Training Progam and the Claudia Cohen Women Educator Institute?
We received so much! But the most important thing was that we learned to view members of the community as our family, to do everything possible to help them and to always give of ourselves wholeheartedly, opening our home, seeing their smile every Shabbat, watching the spiritual advancement of each and every one, being there to help them and provide them with hope when they need it.
What message would you like to impart regarding shlichut?
Shlichut means dedication to Am Yisrael; both to the people in Israel and to those who are far away.
