TRIP HIGHLIGHTS & OVERVIEW

Accommodations during the week will be at the centrally located Dan Panorama Hotel in Jerusalem. For Shabbat, we will stay at the Beit Maimon Hotel in Zichron Yaakov, with its spectacular views of the coastal valley and Mediterranean Sea.

We will begin our trip with chevruta style learning at Rav Kook’s House in downtown Jerusalem, where we will also enjoy shiurim by Prof. Benjamin Ish-Shalom (Bet-Morasha, Jerusalem) and Prof. Tamar Ross (Bar-Ilan University). We will then embark on a walking tour that will include a private meeting with Rav Aryeh Stern, the Chief Rabbi of Jerusalem, and hear of his experience learning with Rav Kook’s son, Rav Tzvi Yehudah.

Our second day of learning will begin at OTS’s Israel Henry Beren Campus in Efrat with Rav David Stav, followed by a shiur with Rav Shlomo Riskin. We will then visit Yeshivat Merkaz HaRav, flagship yeshiva of Rav Kook’s followers, and hear a shiur from one of its Roshei Hayeshiva.  Our daily tiyul will be led by Rabbi Benji Levine, the grandson of Reb Aryeh Levin z’t’l, who was also known as “the Tzaddik of Jerusalem” and a close friend of Rav Kook.

Our third day of learning will begin at OTS’s Midreshet Lindenbaum where we will explore Rav Kook’s interest in science and art through shiurim with Rabbi Shlomo Vilk (OTS’s Yeshivat Hesder Machanaim) and Rabbi Yedidya Sinclair (MALT 2018 Scholar). This will be followed by a journey to Bnei Brak to learn from Rabbi Moshe Tzuriel, the brilliant author of the acclaimed Orot Ha-Re’Ayah, a series of books on Rav Kook and the former Havruta of Rav Kook’s son, Rav Tzvi Yehudah. We will end the day with a walking tour of the picturesque Tel-Aviv neighborhood of Neve-Tzedek, where Rav Kook resided when he was Chief Rabbi of Yaffo.

Our fourth day of learning will begin at Yeshivat Birkat Moshe in Maale Adumim, to learn from the Rosh Hayeshiva, HaRav Nachum Rabinowitz, one of the outstanding halakhic authorities in the Religious Zionist world today, as well as enjoy another shiur with Rabbi David Stav. We will then begin our journey to our Shabbat destination of Zichron Yaakov, located in the beautiful and scenic Carmel Mountains. This trip will include a security tour of the Jordan Valley with Professor Ephraim Inbar from the Jerusalem Institute of Strategic Studies, and a few other stops up north.

Friday will include a tour of the The Aliya Museum in Zichron Yaakov, followed by a tour and tasting at the Bat-Shlomo Winery.

Shabbat will truly be a spiritually uplifting experience in beautiful Zichron Yaakov hosted by the Rabbinic leadership of Ohr Torah Stone. We will have the rare opportunity to spend Shabbat Kodesh learning Torah, singing zemirot, praying at the Ohel-Yaakov Synagogue, (established in 1886 by Baron de Rothschild), and enjoying meaningful time together with our OTS hosts, renowned Torah scholars and true leaders of the modern Jewish world. This will include an inspiring Friday Night Tisch, and a fascinating Shabbat afternoon walking tour. After Havdalah, we will depart for the airport with our spiritual batteries charged.
