Ohr Torah Stone is lighting the way!

LIghting the Way Womens Torah Learning

Did you know that Midreshet Lindenbaum’s Hebrew nickname is “Mother of all Seminaries” because it was the first and remains the largest framework for women’s Torah study in Israel? Did you know that the flagship branch in Jerusalem is home to the largest beit midrash for women in the world?

Tonight, OTS is dedicating the lighting of the second candle to Midreshet Lindenbaum’s three branches – in Jerusalem, home of the renowned overseas program as well as Israeli programs – in Lod, and in Carmiel.

After all, what were the Hashmonaim fighting for? For our right and obligation to “listen, to learn; to teach, to safeguard; and to do and establish all the teachings of your Torah with love.”

Some of the groundbreaking revolutions which Midreshet Lindenbaum pioneered include programs for women to study and teach Torah, Talmud and halakha; the establishment of a five-year institute to cultivate women’s spiritual and halakhic leadership; and the establishment of a Torah study/IDF military service program which enables a full synthesis of book and sword, Judaism and Zionism, Am Yisrael and Torat Yisrael.

Just like the Chashmonaim.

There is no better time like Chanukah to salute the dedicated women scholars and leaders from Ohr Torah Stone who are dedicated to preserving and spreading the light of the Torah.

Happy Chanukah!
