More than 500 women participated in an alumnae gathering at Ohr Torah Stone’s Midreshet Lindenbaum women’s college.
The event included class reunions by year and featured Torah classes in three languages — Hebrew, English and Spanish – for graduates of all programs. The special evening was capped by powerful selichot prayers in the seminary’s beit midrash.
Rabbi Ohad Teharlev, the director of Midreshet Lindenbaum’s Israeli programs, said, “If there had been any question as to the level of yirat shamayim (reverence for God) held by these women who serve in the IDF, one only had to come see what was happening in the beit midrash, to witness the powerful singing; they are doing wonderful things.
“One must remember that behind the statements made about women serving in the military stand real women who truly and honestly wish to contribute to the State of Israel and its defense forces, and therefore choose the appropriate spiritual preparation to help them do so. They view their military service as part of their avodat Hashem (service of God), “added Teharlev.
Rabbi Katriel (Kenneth) Brander, President of the Ohr Torah Stone network, said that “one of the things that testify to the vitality of our community is the continued success and growth of women’s learning, leadership and service to our people – and this was on full display at Midreshet Lindenbaum.”
