shofar being blown in the park before Rosh HashanaOn both days of Rosh Hashana, Ohr Torah Stone network’s “Yachad” program will run the “Shofar in the Park” initiative across Israel. The program is in partnership with the Tzohar Rabbinical Organization and the Israeli Corporation of Community Centers.

“Shofar in the Park” will bring the spirit of the Festival to more than 200 parks, central squares, community centers and public spaces throughout Israel. Blowing the shofar will be at the core of the gathering, together with group singing, abridged prayers and activities for children – giving the participants a taste of the traditional and festive celebration of Rosh Hashana.

Rabbi David Stav, Chairman of the Tzohar Rabbinical Organization, noted that “we run the ‘Shofar in the Park’ activities as part of our approach, with the goal of enabling those who wish to feel a connection to the essence and principles of the Rosh Hashana festival to do so.”

The “Shofar in the Park” events, taking place for the third year in a row, is in partnership with the Israeli Corporation of Community Centers and Regional Administrations.

A part of the year-long activities run by Ohr Torah Stone’s “Yachad” program, the goal of the initiative is to bring Jewish Israelis from all ages and backgrounds who do not attend synagogue during the holidays to connect to the festival in a welcoming atmosphere.

Ohr Torah Stone is a Modern Orthodox comprehensive educational and social network based on Israel. OTS has numerous initiatives in Jewish outreach and social action. The movement has also educated female leaders of Jewish communities worldwide, opening the first school to train and certify women as advocated in the Rabbinical Courts.

Rabbi Dr. Kenneth Brander, President and Rosh HaYeshiva of the Ohr Torah Stone network notes, “The ‘Shofar in the Park’ events are communal and social activities which bring people together to forge a collective national identity. Taking the shofar out of the synagogue’s four walls and making it accessible to the entire Jewish people represents another layer of Ohr Torah Stone’s diverse activities designed to connect all segments of society to our heritage, as well as to one another.”
