Darkaynu is unique because it “sidestreams” students in a specialized, highly-supervised program featuring an exceptional counselor/student ratio, operating within the larger environments of other overseas programs for mainstreamed youth. This empowers Darkaynu students to participate in activities in which they can excel and build confidence, i.e. dorm experiences, meals, weekends, outings, celebrations or leisure time, but separates them for those in which they need individualized attention, such as in the classroom, or in workshops tailored specifically for them on subjects ranging from life skills, independent living or interpersonal relations. Darkaynu also provides each student with vocational training, work and volunteer placements, a personal “adoptive family,” and an abundance of social opportunities which they couldn’t possibly experience on their own.
Dear Team Darkaynu,
We have just received official notice from the offices of The Jerusalem Marathon that this year’s marathon will not take place as scheduled, on March 20th, 2020. This difficult decision was made by the Jerusalem Municipality in accordance with Israel’s health ministry regulations out of an abundance of concern during the current COVID-19 Coronavirus epidemic.
We will be in touch about any possible future events (Jerusalem Municipality is already looking into potential dates at a time when this will hopefully be behind us בע”ה) and, in the interim, we welcome your questions and will do our best to reply in a timely fashion. Any and all registration fees will be refunded.
On behalf of our staff, our students, and their families, we reach out to you, our dear friends, to thank you for your dedication and support. Team Darkaynu joins hundreds of other Jewish communal organizations from across the world who travel each year to the Jerusalem Marathon. This marathon serves as an important fundraiser and friend-raiser for so many of us and while the news of the Jerusalem Marathon’s cancellation is a serious blow to all of us, what remains and cannot be cancelled is the tremendous outpouring of support and camaraderie. The desire to give of yourselves and to encourage others to do the same was not and can never be cancelled.
That thousands of individuals who have raised money on behalf of different organizations have banded together in the name of inclusion and Kavod haBriyos is, in and of itself, a big win.
We join with all of our brothers and sisters in praying for those affected by the Coronavirus and look forward to being Oleh l’Regel – walking, running, jogging, together in the streets of Yerushalayim, כאיש אחד בלב אחד, very soon.
Avi Ganz – Team Darkaynu
