Roy Stern z”l was a champion of the Jewish people who cared deeply about Eretz Yisrael, Am Yisrael and Torat Yisrael. He was a tremendously dedicated man of principles, guided by a commitment to excellence.
Roy was instrumental in the establishment and growth of Efrat, and as a longtime Chairman of the Board of OTS Israel, he made an indelible impact on Ohr Torah Stone and Jews worldwide.
The name Roy Stern is also synonymous with chesed; as a result, OTS has established the Roy Stern Chesed Fund, guided and inspired by his memory.
The fund provides assistance with unexpected expenses to families in temporary economic distress; helps families in need with medical care, rehabilitation, therapy, or educational expenses; assists families of little means to celebrate the Jewish holidays; and provides support with exceptional cases, as needed.
Recent examples of the fund’s support include:
- Covering the computer and internet costs for a student at Oriya High School for Girls who recently lost her mother in a tragic car accident
- Assisting two teachers at Derech Avot High School for Boys who are facing serious financial challenges
- Providing vital assistance for a Ukrainian orphan with special needs who is a student in the Elaine and Norm Brodsky Darkaynu Program
- Partially underwriting the costs involved in enabling 11th Grade students at our high schools to participate in their institution’s trip to Poland
While the bulk of recipients come from the OTS family – employees, students, students’ families, spiritual leaders-in-training, etc. – in exceptional circumstances, the fund’s governing committee also recognizes the needs of people in Israel and throughout the world who have fallen into distress.
